Michelle is the Director of Operations and Community Services for the ʔaq̓am Community and is responsible and accountable for overseeing the Operations and Community Services department including all activities related to Housing, Community Infrastructure, Energy, Safety and Security, Facilities, Health, Wellness, Education, Social Services, Childcare, Ktunaxa Language and Culture programs and resources.
Born and raised in the Cranbrook/Kimberley region Michelle is a member of the Ktunaxa Nation and resides in Cranbrook with her husband and two children. A life long learner, Michelle is presently working towards completion of her degree in Business Management.
An “Accidental Project Manager” Michelle has found her calling and passion in the development and project management of a number of Infrastructure Projects within the ʔaq̓am community. Including the creation of a community school and gymnasium, ʔaq̓am Trading gas and convenience store, a bio-mass district heating facility, potable water system replacement and water quality treatment projects, improvements to community housing and other infrastructure, restoration of the St. Eugene Mission Church and a community health and wellness centre-including the community’s first solar installation.
A recipient of the 2017 Kootenay Game Changers Award-First Nations Game Changer Michelle is proud to work and live in her own community and is proud to play a role in pushing forth the innovative strategic vision of the ʔaq̓amnik̓ people.
