Jim is a director with the British Columbia Sustainable Energy Association (BCSEA) and is a solar adviser for Empower Energy Corp, designing, selling and installing residential and commercial solar PV systems across BC and Alberta.
The BCSEA is a volunteer-based charity that supports the sustainable production, distribution, and consumption of energy in British Columbia and beyond. The association collaborates with governments, industry, universities and other institutions, other non-governmental organizations, and citizens to put in place the conditions needed to accelerate the province’s transition to a lower-carbon economy.
Based in the Kootenays, Jim has an extensive and varied background in community economic development, event planning and marketing. He lived and worked in rural Japan for two years. While there, he became enthralled with energy efficiency, waste reduction and the Japanese philosophy of “Kaizen.” Returning to the Kootenays he focused his work on local sustainability. With a mission to always “do what you can to make the world a better place,” that focus is now on supporting a sustainable environment with green energy. His personal goal is to cover 1 in every 10 buildings in the Kootenays with solar energy.
